Greece’s deepest cave – Sintzi Spring

At the turn of April and May 2025, a group of Polish cave divers went to the Peloponnese peninsula for the third time to further explore and document Sintzi Spring – the deepest underwater cave in Greece.

Last year, the leader of the team and Seacraft brand ambassador Bartek Pitala, explored over 250 meters of new corridors in the cave, discovering a connection of two deep shafts at a depth of -160 m and a horizontal corridor that was deepened to -240 m.

Exploration beyond the -250 m

After several days of preparations, on May 1, 2025, Bartek supported by Tomasz Wciórka, Mariusz Banaszak and Michał Sojka, reached the end of the guideline laid last year and then explored over 100 meters of the cave. The corridor stretches horizontally, reaching a depth of -255 meters. The further path was open, but due to the distance traveled (over 200 meters of penetration at a depth below 200 meters), Bartek decided to turn back. Utilizing a dual Seacraft Ghost DPV allowed for minimalization of time spent in the deepest corridor. The dive lasted 8 hours.

During the exploration Bartek been powered by Seacraft Dual Ghost 2000 that alowed him to reach the goal.

“Even after going full-throttle in the corridor on the bottom and using the power converter for 7 hours of heating during decompression, the Ghost DPV still had 40% of charge remaining. The possibility to substitute four heating batteries with the DPV is a big facilitation” says Bartek.

Thanks to the ENC3 Navigation Console, it was possible to create detailed plans and 3D projections of the cave, including the newly explored sections.

At the moment, the team considers the exploration project of this cave to be complete, however, Bartek left a reel of 150 m of line that can be used for any future exploration of Sintzi.

“I left my reel at the end of the explored section. There is still a good 150 meters of line on it. If any other team wants to try challenging Sintzi and her secrets – our team is here to advise and help.” says Bartek.

The BAD Exploration Team for the exploration of Sintzi cave consists of: Bartek Pitala, Tomasz Wciórka, Mariusz Banaszak, Michał Sojka.
